Welcome, and thank you for checking out The Things She Carried!
In September of 2013, I abruptly left my career position as a social worker, drained and exhausted, stressed to the point of breaking. I had spent years in careers that involved taking care of others, only to return home exhausted and faced with the task of taking care of my daughter by myself. Nowhere in there did I ever have time to take care of me. Finally, it was just too much. I wasn't sure where I was going or what I was going to do, but I did know that I could not continue on the path I was on for any longer. Since that time, I have embarked on the path of an entrepreneur, and on one of personal growth, self-discovery, and healing. That journey is a never-ending one, but along the way I've drastically changed my life.

I work as an entrepreneur in a variety of mediums; I have built businesses utilizing app-based technology and the sharing economy, I run an online retail stores through Amazon FBA, and I am a writer, an editor, and a coach. I have a Masters degree in Counseling and love to work directly with people teaching the skills I used to change my life and coaching them on how to find their own path. This blog is primarily focused on personal growth, relationships, and counseling topics. I live in Seattle with my amazing daughter, Aurora... Rory for short. We both love to read, write, and paint, and have a passion for theater, especially Broadway musicals. Date nights are a common occurrence, and often involve Thai food. We spend a lot of time traveling, for fun and for culture, and plan to switch to a home school program in the coming years so that we can do more of that. We are working together to design a plan to volunteer around the world, hoping to hit all 7 continents. We will launch a new blog for this soon, and will announce when we do. Please, feel free to email me at Jennifer@TheThingsSheCarried.com and just say hi, tell me how you're liking the blog, or tell me your story ! I love to hear from readers, and will always make a point to respond.
